Internships

The Summer 2019 Cloud Developer Intern will be exposed to a wide variety of cloud-related technologies and will work on the same projects as our full-time engineers! You will use various languages and secure DevOps practices to write, test, build, integrate, and deploy your code into the cloud for our government customer.  You'll also gain experience, using Docker, for containerizing an application and turning it into a micro-service.  And, of course, you'll get LOTS of experience using many of the AWS services, too.

Students with interest or prior experience in ANY of the following areas are encouraged to apply!

What we are expecting from you (i.e. the qualifications you must have): 

  • At least 6 years experience with Windows and/or Linux operating system environments, including installation, configuration, operation, and customization efforts. 
  • Experience with cloud computing and virtualization platforms such as Amazon Web Services (AWS), VMWare, Microsoft Azure, etc. 
  • Experience with infrastructure configuration management tools such as SaltStack, Ansible, Chef, Puppet, etc. 
  • Ability to quickly learn and shift in step with the latest cloud-computing, networking, and infrastructure management technologies. 
  • In-depth knowledge of TCP/IP protocols that includes the ability to troubleshoot and correct errors.  
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with a keen sense of customer service. 
  • Excellent problem solving and troubleshooting skills. 
  • Process oriented with great documentation skills. 
  • TS/SCI with polygraph required.
  • BS in Computer Science, IT, IS, or equivalent area of technical study (An additional 4 years of IT experience can substitute for a BS Degree) 

Nice to have:  

  • Experience building and operating a Windows domain through the use of Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, etc. 
  • Experience with cloud based web hosting tools.
  • Experience with public cloud-based software defined networking and network security.

Your Mission: Research and implement system management and deployment solutions

A day in the life: (just a few of the things you may do on any given day):

  • Research and implement system management and deployment solutions
  • Setting up foreman and other solutions for deployment system. From bare metal configuration to OS and software deployment
  • Create templates for system configuration
  • Write scripts in Ruby, Python, PHP, BASH to interact with and connect different systems and tools
  • Create scripts to provision bare metal via IPMI and Redfish
  • Stand-up, maintain and improve clusters for different projects
  • Work with tool such as Foreman, Ubuntu MAAS, Docker, Rancher, Mesos and others
  • Secure systems to hardening requirements meet compliance
  • Improve and rework networking for clusters
  • Work with vendors to plan upgrades and hardware improvements to future deployments/expansions
  • Design and 3D-print brackets and other custom hardware/parts for different systems
  • Help with custom embedded solutions for system monitoring and compliance

You will excel in this role if you (are):

What we are expecting from you (i.e. the qualifications you must have):

  • 5+ years of Linux system administration (Ubuntu preferred)
  • 2+ years of experience building, deploying, and maintaining Docker containers
  • Solid understanding of TCP/IP networking fundamentals
  • Operational automation & scripting skills using BASH or Python
  • Ability to automatically deploy operating systems to a large computing cluster remotely
  • Effective at multi-tasking and learn new technologies on-the-fly
  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in Computer Science or related discipline.

TS/SCI with polygraph required.

Desired Skills:

  • Desire to work on cloud analytic platforms like Apache Spark, Mesos, Chronos, Marathon, etc.
  • Interest in container management platforms such as Kubernetes 
  • Experience with server configuration & infrastructure automation tools such as Chef, Puppet, or Ansible
  • Familiarity with clustered filesystems such as Gluster or HDFS
